Hidden under our feet is an information superhighway that allows plants to communicate and help each other out. It’s made of fungi. So my message is we are all connected. We are more resilient when we are together.

Mycologist Paul Stamets says “Mushrooms were the first living things on land, breaking down rocks like lichens do today and making way for plants” – and after extinctions like the meteor that killed off the dinosaurs, “mushrooms inherited the Earth, they can be used to fight invasive insects, create cures for various diseases, create ethanol for fuel, clean up toxic waste sites and rebuild sterile land.
Fossilized mushrooms have been discovered dating back hundred million years. When you think about all the hurdles they had to overcome to get from where it was growing and be mineralized and preserved for milions of years, it is quite astonishing.

Mushrooms were the roses in the garden of that unseen world, because the real mushroom plant was underground. The parts you could see – what most people called a mushroom – was just a brief apparition.” MARGARET ATWOOD

“The Creative Adult Is The Child Who Survived” Deniz is a mixed-media artist who loves to tell her stories in three dimensions. She earned her degree in engineering & agricultural economics and embarked on a professional career for 15 years. Later she found mixed media art as healing through art and never looked back.
For Deniz, art begins with prompts from nature – objects found along the sea and lake shores, forests, fields and meadows.  As she gathers these objects, she visualizes connections that might exist with the viewer or how each object might be related to another.  Her works are a delicate balance of small treasures that are fitted to tell the story.  She loves giving new life to old and once loved objects – she is fascinated by the way their history adds to the detail and uniqueness of each piece.
Each piece of the series becomes an engineering challenge, still very delicate and gentle nature.
